THE BLUE GREEN THANG
My co-worker left early today so that her and her husband could trade in their two cars for a new one. He decided that he lived close enough to work that he could walk... and since she is with child, she needs a bigger and safer car. So, her two door Escort (with hatchback) and his old SUV of some kind were traded in today. Tomorrow morning, I'm sure we (the whole team) will make a trip out to the parking lot to see her brand new Silver 330 BMW.
It's days like those... new car days for others... that make me question my priorities. WHY Shaune Thomas, did you buy that condo again? Because renting, is throwing your money away and real estate appreciates in value, unlike a car. O yeah. That's why. Well, it's not really the condo - it's that damn student loan. But, anywhow... I have 6 months left of driving it, if I'm to accomplish my goal of having a new one by age 30.
I inherited the Blue Green Thang from my grandmother when she passed away. Prior to that, I was driving a Gerber - a White Geo Metro Hatchback with No AC! My roommates in college called it a Baby Shoe aka Gerber. That little Gerber got me to North Carolina and back. Till this day, I will never forget driving across Texas with no AC - with two grown men (my dad and cousin) in the car. YES - That's insane.
When I turned the Gerber over to my brother (who has yet to drive it 3 years later) it was for an upgrade! The Blue Green Thang has AC! I believe it was my younger sister, who named her as she drove by in her brand new Shine - Saturn Ion... My reply at the time... I'm driving up to my very own carport and not my Mommas house! LOL
I must admit, driving it keeps me humble.
Ofcourse Somedays, a hint of embarrasment comes upon me, when I drive the blue green thang to some fancy downtown for a work event. And being that my job will reimburse me - I can't resist valet. Other days - Most days - All I can do is Thank God. Because, AT LEAST I have a car to drive. At least it runs and at least I don't have to pay for it.
I am not my Car. LOL
My Car is not me... SHE is not me. However, lord Jesus please don't let nothing happen to it before I can afford to get a newer one. (Not brand new - just newer.) Until that day, I will do my best to remain humble. Tomorrow, I will think happy thouhgts when my co-worker introduces us to Silver Shine 330. I will (as always) thank God for my car, despite her "disabilities". And, So I don't make her feel any less important than she may feel on her own I will (as always) make sure that I park her next to a car in her very own socio economic status. Afterall, Blue Green Thangs really have No business Socializing with Shines of Any kind. Hell, that type of exposure would cause Ms. Thang to go on Strike!

“In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
